Setting up a SLAC Account

Visitors: Please note that visitors who are at SLAC for a short period of time should refer to: Computer Resources for Visitors.

SLAC Accounts

IMPORTANT: If you already have a SLAC account, make sure that you also have access to the CVS Repository and write access to the nfs user space.

PASSWORDS: Passwords are set to expire every 6 months; be sure to change them accordingly.

To begin using SLAC computing resources for an extended period, you will need to:

  1. Go to the SLAC Users Organization's (SLUO's) website and fill out the SLAC User Information Form.

Note: This form must be submitted before a SLAC account request can be processed. When filling out this form, be sure to list a SLAC Spokesperson/Sponsor/Supervisor. Tip: Most people list Richard Dubois as their SLAC Spokesperson.

  1. Apply for a computer account for each platform that you'll be using as follows:
  2. Go to SLAC Guidelines for Computer Account Requests.
  3. Print, read, and sign the Declaration form.
  4. Print and fill out the SLAC Computer Account Form.
(Tip: Czar name and signature not required; they can be filled in on the Fax receiving end.)
  5. Fax all forms to: (650) 926-2221.
  6. Please verify that the Fax was sent, and then e-mail karen@slac.stanford.edu and richard@slac.stanford.edu to alert them that the forms have been faxed. If you will also need access to CVS, be sure to include that information in your email; otherwise, access will not be included when your account is set up.

If you have not had a response within one week, please e-mail them again in order to determine the status of your application.

Note: When complete, applications are normally processed within twenty-four hours.

IMPORTANT:

  • Collaboration members with new grad students and postdocs should contact Pat Nolan to get them registered in the collaboration database and give them access to mailing lists.

Note: This database is also used for verification purposes before granting people Confluence accounts and access to the GLAST portal. You must include your SLAC Username in the data entry field on your Personal Information Form:

  • If you need a Confluence account or access to the GLAST portal, make sure you are registered in the collaboration database (see above bullet item), then refer to Confluence: The GLAST Wiki and follow the instructions for getting a JIRA account.
